New drainage on 16th

In a very skilful operation, the team neatly ran channels across the fairway and around the green and then installed the new drainage. They carefully placed the turf back into place returning the fairway to as it was before. Within a matter of days it was hard to see where they had been. Well done team, excellent work all round.

Celebrating success!
There was great fun, lovely food and lots of laughs at the prize presentation when a full dining room celebrated both team and individual successes within the club, as well as those who have represented the club throughout the county.
Special mention to Henry Croft, who had a fantastic 2024 and the scratch team for their victory in the Harrogate Union matches.

Preparing the greens for winter

The VGR TopChanger injects a large amount of sand, at an average depth of seven inches, to promote aeration into the rootzone and consequently promote healthy growth that is less susceptible to disease.
As the work was non-impactful, the greens were looking really good and rolling well just a few days after the work was completed. The work will ensure we can play on the Ilkley greens throughout the winter without the need to revert to temporary greens.

Well done teams!!

Having retained our position in the Yorkshire First Division, Ilkley has won the Harrogate and District Union of Golf Clubs’ Scratch league, following the final match against Otley Golf Club.
We had 10 players playing in the scratch team over the year, who all played incredibly well.
Furthermore, Ilkley finished runners-up to Skipton Golf Club in the Inter-Club league. This was another great team effort with 30 members representing Ilkley in the league matches.
Huge congratulations to Skipton for winning the league in its first season as part of H&DUGC.

Yorkshire Invitational hosted by Thomas Bjørn

Two keenly fought pro-am competitions took place on the first day with shotgun starts in the morning and afternoon.
Following both sessions, Thomas Bjørn took part in a fascinating Q&A session giving the audience a great insight into the pressures of playing in three winning European Ryder Cup teams in 1997, 2002 and 2014. He then went on to detail how he inspired and motivated the European players to win by an impressive scoreline of 17 ½ to 10 ½ in, when he captained the team in Paris in 2018.
The following day, a full field of professionals competed to win the Yorkshire Invitational Trophy. With great golf played, in blustery conditions, it was an extremely close finish with four players tied on 4 under, including Thomas Bjørn, until the last hole. However, with birdies at their last holes to take them to 5 under, last year’s winner Matt Cort and two times winner, Liam Bond, headed for a play-off on the 13th and 10th holes.
Having driven the par 4 10th hole, Matt Cort two putted from 30 feet to make birdie, and successfully defend his title.
We received excellent feedback about the course, with congratulations going to Duncan and his greens team. Everyone was also impressed with the way they were welcomed and looked after by Mark, Sophie, Jaine and the rest of the front of house team. Huge thanks also to all the Members who acted as volunteers and marshals over the two days.
It was great to showcase Ilkley Golf Club in such superb condition and we look forward to welcoming back SGH Events’ Yorkshire Invitational in 2025.
