The weather was perfect for this year’s Captains’ Charity Competition, which raised valuable funds for Sue Ryder. As well as a full field for the golf, everyone enjoyed a wonderful BBQ on the terrace, where more money was raised through an auction and raffle. Well done to Lady Captain, Holly Flather and Men’s Captain Richard Thornton. The winning team for the golf was Neil Caddick, Steve Lampkin, Freddie Graves and Ian Appleby.

An absolutely brilliant effort by Ilkley Golf Club Member Freddy Clark and Ilkley Golf Club staff member, Will Whiteoak who played 100 holes in a day to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

A GREAT YEAR FOR MAX

An excellent 2023 for Max Berrisford whose lowest handicap during the year was +4.1 Read more

He remains a permanent member of the Yorkshire team and part of the victorious English County Champions team which was held at Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club.

On an individual note, Max finished second by one shot in the Yorkshire Amateur, second in the under 25s English Amateur at Woburn and won the prestigious Berkshire Trophy over 72 holes.

He also won the Scratch Medal/Club Championship with a record lowest 36-hole total of 135 (69 & 66).

It was a wonderful well attended event with a heady combination of good food, good music, excellent service, fine weather and a determination on the part of the guests to have a great time.

the tournament host Michael Campbell, ran a junior golf clinic with our club professional, Andy Turner on the practice ground. The opportunity to listen and learn from a past major winner was a real highlight of the summer.

AGE PARTNERSHIP YORKSHIRE INVITATIONAL

The Club was chosen to host the Age Partnership Yorkshire Invitational event run by SGH Events for the fourth year in a row Read more

The headline golfer was 2005 US Open champion Michael Campbell. Ilkley golf club member Mark James and a host of professional golfers, joined by a host of celebrities and amateur golfers, competed over the two-day event.  Following a 3-way playoff, the winner was Matt Cort.

INAUGURAL LADIES’ PRO AM

A full field of 40 teams supported IGC’s Inaugural Ladies’ Pro Am. Read more

Competitors included members from Southport & Ainsdale, Luffenham Heath, Alwoodley, Moortown, Pannal and Ganton. Feedback questionnaires from all participants confirmed the event to be wholly successful on all levels with praise apportioned to all areas of Ilkley GC. Grateful thanks to the Yorkshire PGA and all involved at Ilkley for enabling such a credible event to proceed in such a professional manner.

SUCCESS FOR THE SCRATCH TEAM

Well done to Ilkley’s scratch team of Max Berrisford, Dan Thomas and Henry Croft, who were promoted from the Yorkshire 2nd Division Team Championships played at Hessle. Read more

They then went on to represent the club in the Yorkshire 1st Division Team Championship, played at Hornsea, where they finished a very creditable 7th in the whole of Yorkshire.

Also, Congratulations to Dan Thomas who achieved his ‘Yorkshire colours’ in 2023. To qualify a player needs to make ten or more appearances for the county.
