A Glowing Report from former USPGA Champion, Rich Beem!

Rich Beem tees off on the 3rd

Rich Beem's hosting of the Age Partnership Rich Beem Yorkshire Invitational at Ilkley saw some stunning golf from a group of high quality senior tour pros. Winning with a five under 64 was former European Ryder Cup winner, Philip Price. Read more

Beem was delighted with the two day event, which included a pro-am prior to the seniors tournament, and was especially complimentary about our course as you can see here. He added to his praise in a recent article for National Club Golfer where he commented:

“You’ve got to know where you’re going, the bunkers are strategically placed, especially on the back nine, and the greens have enough movement that will make you think. It’s a great venue.

“I hope it all works out [future Legend tour events]. I think the golf course would be fantastic.”

An evening with Colin Montgomerie

Ilkley Golf Club welcomed Honorary Member, Colin Montgomerie OBE, back to the Club for a very special Members' evening Read more

Members of the Club were treated to an extremely entertaining and interesting evening in the presence of Honorary Life Member, Colin Montgomerie OBE.

After a top-quality meal prepared by our chef, Andrew Davey, there was a ‘question and answer’ session with Monty.

As a former Ryder Cup Captain and eight times European Tour Order of Merit winner, it gave those present a terrific insight into his golfing career.

He fondly remembered the way he began his golf at Ilkley Golf Club, before moving to University in the States and then turning professional. He recounted how he played an incredible nine holes of golf, as part of a job interview to work for IMG, which resulted in them wanting to work for him, rather than the other way around, by representing him as a golf professional.

He talked candidly about his trials and triumphs throughout his career, including coming so close to winning a major, the captaining of the Ryder Cup team, and some of the personalities, good and bad, with whom he has played golf.

After having witnessed the prodigious length Tiger Woods could drive the ball when he first played with him in his rookie year, he quickly realised he could not compete with him off the tee. He therefore decided to be better than Tiger in other areas. Unfortunately, he soon realised that Tiger didn’t have any weaknesses when it came to golf.

Colin was pleased to see his friends from his time at the Club and was delighted to see his golf coach and former Ilkley Professional, Bill Ferguson, who coached him as a junior and throughout much of his career.  He also paid an emotional tribute to his main rival and great friend at the Club, Chris Flather, with whom he had some great matches and, in a nice touch, suggested had been the better player at the time.

Also in attendance was another Ryder Cup Captain, Mark James, and Walker Cup Captain, Rodney Foster, both of whom are Honorary Life Members of Ilkley Golf Club.

Our thanks go to Colin for a tremendous evening, and we hope to welcome him back soon.

Congratulations to our victorious juniors

Ilkley Juniors win the Harrogate & District Union League title 2021 Read more

We are very proud to announce that Ilkley Golf Club were winners of the H&DUGC’s Junior Inter Club League in 2021, winning all the matches bar one.

This is only the second time we have won the league, the last time being in 2008, making it a great achievement.

The victory was a real team effort with 11 juniors keen to play. It meant our Junior Coordinator, Ben Ridgway, could rotate the squad to ensure everyone got a game, with each of them winning at least one match.

Of the team results, Thomas Ridgway, scored the most team points, finishing highest in the Junior Golfer of the Year rankings. Zac Ayre also impressed, winning four out of his five matches.

Junior Captain, Josh Carlos, had an outstanding game against our closest rivals, Thirsk and Northallerton, winning his match 6&4 at Thirsk, with seven birdies and one bogey. An impressive six under gross through 14 holes.

We were also delighted that although Evie Graves was in demand playing for the Ilkley Ladies' Scratch Team and Yorkshire, she was able to step in as acting captain in the last match against Pannal juniors, in which she also won her game too.

Well done team.
