Chairman of Green's Report Wednesday, 24th April 2013
There is plenty of work taking place on the course right now so I thought I would bring you up to date with what is going to happen over the next few weeks.
The adverse weather and cold temperatures have not relented and with the soil temperature still below 3°C grass does not grow. The greenkeeping staff will be solid tining ( small bore ) to all greens this month to a depth of approx. 10 inches and then hope to follow this up by scarifying several of the wetter greens on the course - 4th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 15th and 16th - then topdressing each green with approx. half a ton of kiln dried sand and some fine grass seed ( bent ). This will improve the smoothness of the greens and improve surface drainage. There will be further work – hollow coring - weather permitting and more kiln dried sand applied when scheduling permits, but ideally within 3 weeks, in addition to brushing every 2 or 3 weeks.
As ever everything is being done to present the course in the best possible way.
